Brings the world of work alive in your classroom

The latest WOW Show Special explores the explosion in skilled and well paid opportunities in the Green Economy – and challenges some of the myths about ‘going green’.

Jobs that can Save the Planet is a fast moving programme which shines a spotlight on three of the worst polluting industries: transport, construction and energy.

We meet young people who have chosen jobs in these sectors and are making a real difference in the fight against climate change.

At just over 12 minutes, this programme would be ideal to share with students from Year 7 onwards at Assembly. The film is also available as four short individual segments suitable for Study Groups – and each comes with preparation-free PowerPoint lessons for teachers to use in the classroom.

Jobs that can Save the Planet has been produced in association with Surrey County Council. Luke McCarthy, Green Economy Lead, Surrey County Council said: “We need lots more people in green jobs to meet our climate goals, and we know young people want to work in these jobs. These films help people understand the exciting roles available and how to access them.”

The lesson resources, created by our partners VotesforSchools, were commissioned by the Careers & Enterprise Company’s Coast to Capital Careers Hub. Although they include some specific Surrey-based references each lesson is designed so that it can easily be edited or adapted for any region.

Lisa Mobbs. Strategic Hub Lead at Coast to Capital Careers Hub, said:

“The green skills lesson resources are designed to effortlessly inspire young minds to discover the boundless potential of green career opportunities and to cultivate environmental consciousness in Surrey’s schools.  There’s an easy to use resource for every Key Stage and every learner, helping to ensure that every young person finds their best next step”.
